Gold needle treatment delivers radiofrequency energy through microneedles. It aims to create a controlled heat response in skin tissue. However, devices and treatment areas differ. Your skin, previous procedures and expectations affect the choice.

What is this treatment?

Gold needle generally refers to radiofrequency microneedling. Needles pass through the skin to deliver energy at selected depths. The resulting heat triggers a tissue response. However, the name does not establish the needle material or device specifications.

Fine lines, some scars and uneven texture are among the concerns assessed. Results depend on the skin problem and method. The procedure also carries medical risks. The FDA's 2025 radiofrequency microneedling warning describes reports of serious complications.

Who may be suitable?

You can seek assessment for texture, visible pores or fine lines. However, radiofrequency microneedling does not suit every skin concern.

  • First describe the area that bothers you and previous treatments.
  • Always mention active infection, open wounds or cold sores.
  • Also share any history of pigmentation changes or prominent scars.
  • Discuss pregnancy, immune conditions, medicines and electronic implants.
  • For the eye area, ask separately about the device's limits of use.

How is it performed?

  1. Assessment: The doctor reviews your skin concern and previous procedures, then explains alternatives.
  2. Device selection: Ask the device name and its suitability for the area. Also ask about a single-use needle cartridge.
  3. Preparation: The team cleans the skin. Topical anaesthesia may help reduce pain when appropriate.
  4. Treatment: The doctor selects depth and energy for the area. Microneedles deliver radiofrequency energy.
  5. Aftercare: Obtain written care and review instructions. Also learn which symptoms require help.

Recovery

Redness, tenderness, swelling or small crusts can appear during the first days. However, their duration depends on the person and settings. A schedule of a few days is not a promise of full recovery.

  • Cleanse and moisturise with the recommended gentle products.
  • Also follow sun-protection advice and do not pick crusts.
  • Ask when to resume makeup, active skincare products and exercise.
  • Seek same-day assessment for worsening pain, blistering or spreading redness.
  • Sudden vision changes need emergency care; do not wait for review.

Risks and side effects

Radiofrequency microneedling can cause burns, permanent scars, fat loss and nerve damage. Permanent changes in facial appearance are also possible. The FDA has reported receiving accounts of these serious problems. Those reports do not establish your personal risk percentage.

Infection and darker or lighter skin pigmentation can also occur. Some complications need further treatment. Therefore, do not regard all risks as mild redness. Experience and careful settings do not eliminate risk.
