What is this treatment?
During PRP preparation, a centrifuge separates blood into components. The practitioner uses the platelet-rich portion. However, preparation methods and the resulting contents can differ.
Skin rejuvenation studies do not show uniform results. Therefore, the name PRP does not imply a single success rate. It also does not surgically remove loose skin or necessarily correct lost volume.

Who may be suitable?
Fine lines, skin texture, acne scars or dark circles may prompt assessment. However, these concerns do not all need the same treatment. For example, structural causes matter in under-eye hollowing. Hair loss needs a separate diagnosis too.
Bleeding or platelet disorders, infection and cancer treatment may affect suitability. Also mention pregnancy, breastfeeding and medicines. Do not stop blood thinners on your own.
How is it performed?
- First, discuss the purpose and your medical history.
- If appropriate, the practitioner draws blood from your arm. The amount depends on the system.
- A centrifuge then separates the platelet-rich portion. Sterile conditions and matching the blood to the correct patient matter.
- If injection or another method is proposed, clarify the details. Microneedling is an additional procedure with separate risks.
- Finally, discuss care, the need for further sessions and follow-up timing.
Recovery
Blood-draw and injection sites may develop pain, redness, swelling or bruising. These may last several days, or longer for some people. An immediate return to social activities therefore cannot be promised.
Follow advice for cleansing and protecting the area. Also plan makeup and exercise according to the procedure. If benefit occurs, changes may emerge over weeks or months. Do not mistake early swelling for the treatment result.
Risks and side effects
PRP uses your own blood; however, this does not remove all risks. Blood handling and injection carry infection risks. Numbing cream or additional materials may also cause reactions. Pain and bruising are possible too.
Seek medical help for increasing pain, discharge, fever or spreading redness. Sudden vision changes or breathing difficulty require emergency care. Do not wait for your scheduled review.
